Join the Western Reserve Philosophical Society for a three-part series discussing the work of great political thinkers.

Do you ever find yourself wondering what Plato thought about justice, politics, who should rule, or how states ought to govern? Well then this three-part reading and discussion group is just the thing for you.

They will be tackling several parts of Plato’s work over the course of the remaining two events in the series:

Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m.
“Why the Ideal is Impossible”: readings from Republic book V; section from the Statesman

Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m.
“Why We Need the Impossible Ideal”: readings from Laws III and V

In order to receive the portions of the readings we will be doing, please reach out to westernreservephilosophy@gmail.com and a PDF of the readings will be sent to you.

In addition to Plato, the “Great Political Thinkers” series will tackle many of Western philosophy’s greatest minds on questions surrounding politics, society, political authority, justice, civil disobedience, and many more.

(Note: Prior reading is required for this event, but you may still come to the events to listen and contribute. If you do choose to come without doing the readings or having no familiarity with the subject matter being discussed, please understand that the time will be used to dig into the subject matter in a deep way and is not a time for you to sound off on a tangential or partially related topic. We have plenty of other events for that.)
